Inside Ulaman Eco-Luxury Resort, Bali | ReelTrip Editorial

Tucked into the jungle above Tabanan on Bali's south-west coast, Ulaman Eco-Luxury Resort has become one of the most talked-about wellness retreats in Indonesia. This ReelTrip editorial takes you inside the property — the bamboo architecture, the private jungle villas, the sound-healing dome and the farm-to-table restaurant — and explains how to plan a stay.

The Setting: Tabanan, Bali

Ulaman sits about 40 minutes north of Canggu and an hour from Ubud, on the edge of a river gorge. The location trades the traffic of southern Bali for rice-terrace views, waterfalls and slow mornings — while keeping the coast, cafes and coworking of Canggu within easy reach.

Bamboo Architecture

Every structure at Ulaman is built from locally-sourced bamboo, using traditional Balinese joinery and no steel. The main pavilion, the yoga shala and the villas were designed to breathe — open walls, curved roofs and natural ventilation — so guests spend most of the day between inside and outside.

Villas & Suites

Twelve private villas are cut into the hillside, each with a plunge pool, outdoor shower and private terrace facing the jungle. The signature River Villas are the closest to the water; the Canopy Villas sit higher up the slope and catch the sunset.

Wellness: Sound Healing, Watsu, Reiki

The Ulaman spa programme includes sound-healing sessions in a purpose-built bamboo dome, Watsu aqua-therapy in a warm mineral pool, Reiki, Balinese massage and daily yoga. Retreats can be booked as full multi-day programmes or as à la carte add-ons to a normal stay.

Food & Farm-to-Table Dining

Dahana, the on-site restaurant, is plant-forward and largely sourced from Ulaman's own permaculture garden and neighbouring farms. Expect fresh coconut, jackfruit curries, house-made sourdough and fish from the nearby coast.

Best Time to Visit

Bali's dry season runs from May to September and is the most reliable window for jungle stays. Ulaman also runs strongly in the shoulder months (April, October) with fewer crowds and lower rates.
